The coastal Namau gope of the Purari Delta have a distinctive form, with a broad oval form and narrower flange at the base. They are known as kwoi. These boards were displayed in clan cubicles with the ravi, the Men’s Ceremonial House, and rarely left the confines of this building. There is a suggestion (Austen, 1934) that they were sometimes carried out at night during male initiation processions.

This kwoi has the typical large central face with surrounding asymmetric chevrons and sawtooth designs. This is a good early example, being at least early 20th Century, with a slight curve on the back, and a deep honey-coloured patina.
